The Akkuyu NPP project will be implemented despite the negative impact of Western sanctions, Russian Ambassador to Turkey Alexey Yerkhov said in an interview with the Posta newspaper. The diplomat noted that Ankara will gain access to a stable source of environmentally friendly electricity for many years.
The unilateral illegitimate sanctions of the West, unfortunately, have a negative impact on the pace and timing of the implementation of the project, which is intended to become an important element in strengthening the energy security of your country. But despite everything, I want to assure you that the project will be implemented , – said Yerkhov.
Turkish Energy Minister Apparslan Bayraktar said on September 11 that Ankara would take action against the German company Siemens amid problems with the supply of equipment for the Akkuyu NPP. The head of the department noted that “there is a decision made for political reasons.”
The minister pointed out that the company did not explain its actions or provide legal arguments. However, the problem was discussed at the level of the leadership of Turkey and Germany.
Earlier, economist Nikolai Kulbaka stated that the US is not interested in building nuclear power plants. Therefore, he noted, interference in the Russian-Turkish Akkuyu NPP project can be compared to sanctions.
